SPAY/neuter ProgramS

In Miami County

MCHS Logo

Each year over seven million dogs and cats are euthanized. The number one reason for euthanasia is the inability to find homes for all of these animals. We want to encourage you to do your part in reducing this problem by having your pets spayed and/or neutered as soon as you can. This simple act will not only reduce the number of unwanted pets, but will help your pet stay healthier and happier.

As part of our efforts to assist the residents of Miami County we offer three programs which can help reduce the cost of the spay/neuter surgery:

1. Spay/Neuter Coupon Program: The MCHS has a coupon available upon request to all Miami County residents. Please contact Sally at (937) 381-5804 for further information.

2. Low Income Assistance Program: The Humane Society has a program that will assist applicants that meet our income criteria with the spay/neuter surgeries for dogs and cats, with minimal charge to the pet owner. Applicants must meet the criteria set forth by the Society. All requests and information provided are kept confidential.  Please contact Judy at (937) 773-6416.

3. Low Cost Cat Spay/Neuter Clinic: In cooperation with the Miami County Animal Shelter and NOMAD Inc, the MCHS offers a feline low cost clinic almost every month. If you are interested in participating in this program, you may contact the Miami County Animal shelter at (937) 332-6919 or visit them at their location on 1110 N Co. Rd 25A, Troy, Ohio 45373, (near the fairgrounds).  Click here for the 2010 NOMAD schedule.

4. Feral Cat Trap/Neuter/Return (TNR) Program: The TNR technique has been proven to be the most humane and cost-effective method for controlling overpopulation of feral cats. Miami County Humane Society has established a relationship with local veterinarians to provide low cost spay/neuter services for feral cats.  Contact Teresa Lynn at (937) 698-7322 for more information.  Please click on “Kitty Korner”  and print off the “TNR Feral Cat Workshop Handout” and visit www.alleycat.org for more information on the TNR technique.

We are able to offer these programs in part from the support of grants obtained from the Kenneth A. Scott Charitable Trust, Troy Foundation , and the Miami County Foundation.
